After making worldwide headlines 20 years ago when three horses dead heated for a win, the Stony Creek track in the Gippsland region of Victoria came within an inch of doing it again.
Yesterday three runners in the Snap Finance Handicap (1007m) hit the line locked together in an incredible photo finish.
The judge took a while to declare the numbers 4-1-2 – with Sir Woody (inside) beating Lord of Lauriston (outside) by a nose. Flamin’ Unreal (middle) was third, another nose away.
For the record the winner was ridden by Logan McGill and trained by trans-Tasman horseman John Wheeler.
The Frick Collection in New York City will be hosting an exhibition of Stubbs’ work from February through to May. This will be the only North American venue for these paintings.
