1850s ad

The Vintage Fashion Guild has a wonderful gallery of ladies’ equestrian fashion through the ages (above: an ad from October 1858). Nothing I love better than a big fancy hat!

And then there’s the whole side saddle thing too. How ever did they ride that way? My cousin’s grandma trains horses and still rides and shows side saddle, but it will always seem akward to me!

Yes, I look at this and think side saddle too. Not something I’d like to do but I have plenty of friends who just love that class.

Hello, I would like to know who is the author of the painting on your cover page web site (man bringing horses to a market?)?
Thanks
