Lipizzaner Museum

The Lipizzaner Museum in Vienna “offers a comprehensive and fascinating survey covering over four hundred years from the sixteenth century to the present using paintings, engravings, drawings, photographs, uniforms, harnesses, as well as video and film presentations.” There are some lovely photos and a nice online gift shop as well; it’d definitely be worth a stop if you’re ever in Austria!

Neat! I visited the Lipizzaner Museum in Vienna, once. Unfortunately the horses weren’t there to be seen, as they spend summer in the country.

It’s a fascinating museum, set amidst the wonderful architecture of the Hofburg. There are tours of the stables and riding hall, as well as performances (except in August, I think, when the horses are indeed in the countryside for a rest.) Tours and performances sell out well in advance, so do book before visiting Vienna. The Lipizzaner stud at Piber, near Graz, makes for a lovely visit too.
