This is probably the most valuable horse racing trophy in the world. It’s the original Doncaster Cup won by Vedette in England in 1858.
The 150-year-old piece of silverware is now offered as a perpetual trophy by the Australian Jockey Club for the Group Three Sir Frank Packer Plate (2000m), run at Randwick tomorrow.
“A jeweller valued the trophy at around $250,000,” AJC racing manager Col Tuck said this week.
“He said it was as valuable a trophy as the America’s Cup.”
